Edna St. Vincent Millay
(1892-1950)

In 1927, Millay was one of the most famous poets in America. Though most celebrated for her lyric poetry, she was also an outspoken political activist.

This magazine features Millay’s writing against the execution of the Italian immigrants and anarchists, Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti. The bold statement on the cover gives Millay’s accusations a prophetic quality, underlining her moral and cultural authority as she condemns xenophobia in early twentieth-century America.
